Our programmes are aimed at developing the whole child, by challenging them to extend themselves, to question and to enjoy their learning experiences. We offer programmes that enrich learning and develop in our students’ skills in:

Specialist Programmes
Languages other than English
- Italian – All students from Reception to Year 7 learn Italian
- First Language Maintenance Programs – available to students whose cultural backgrounds are: Greek, Italian, Serbian

Music
Interested students have an opportunity to learn the woodwind instruments, violin and piano or keyboard lessons.
English as a Second Language (ESL)
An ESL teacher provides assistance to children from non-English speaking backgrounds in helping them to develop their oral, reading and writing skills in English.
Environmental Education

The Environmental Program utilises the school’s major resource The Scrub – a hectare bushland setting. "The Scrub" and mini-wetlands with its extensive planting of native and local flora and sensory and aboriginal food trails are the dominant feature of the School. An enterprise garden has been established by the community, featuring strongly in our Environmental Programme for planting of vegetables and flowers by students. |

A specialist teacher for all students R-7 provides Weekly
PE lessons.

These aspects of PE are programmed to be inclusive of gender, race and culture and art, are designed to promote healthy and active living and encourage the values of:
- Getting along - through fair play
- Emotional resilience - through being a good sport whether winning or loosing
- Organisation – through getting organised to play games
- Confidence – through participating in different activities
- Persistence – through keeping on trying to succeed in different activities

This year’s activities in PE include:
- Regular PE lessons each week
- Class sports lessons
- Weekly whole school fitness activities
- Regular sports clinics provided by outside agencies
- After school organised sport
- Promotion of local community junior sport teams
- A swimming week for all students in third term
Social Learning Program
The school’s student counsellor works in collaboration with staff
in delivering Program Achieve as the school’s Social Learning Program
across the whole school.
The program is about changing thinking through teaching and promoting
Positive habits of the mind.
We use the metaphor of the 5 keys:
- Confidence (green key)
- Organisation (yellow key)
- Persistence (blue key)
- Getting Along (orange key)
- Emotional Resilience (purple key)
We also teach the values of- respect, caring, consideration
The School Code of Conduct protects the rights of teachers and students
to work and learn in a safe environment and is embedded within the social
learning program. The program helps children to accept responsibility
for inappropriate behaviour. The policy caters for both class and yard
behaviour.
Student Council
The Student Council at Kilkenny Primary is a vital and active group within
the school and has a strong voice on all issues affecting students. The
council is comprised representatives from each class and meets weekly.
The executive meets with the Principal weekly.
The Student Council has representatives who present the students’ views
and concerns at staff meeting and Governing Council Meetings.
All Classes hold weekly meetings with issues being raised by class representatives of Student Council.
